Rhubarb forcers have traditionally been used in the vegetable garden. You place the pot over your rhubarb plant in early spring, and it will protect the rhubarb from the cold and wind. Because it is warm and dark under the pot, the rhubarb will develop and grow faster. After this ‘growth spurt’ you can choose to remove the bleach jar from the rhubarb. You can also leave the bleach pot over the rhubarb, with the lid removed so the stems will grow towards the light. Due to the lack of direct sunlight, the stems will be blanched and the rhubarb will taste sweeter by itself. You do not have to add sugar to the preparation. Tip: do not put the pot over the rhubarb every year, because then you will exhaust the rhubarb too much.
